Windows Server 2012 RD Connection Broker Installation

I am unable to install RD Connection Broker in Windows Server 2012 Physical machine, I have tried many different resources and techniques, yet cannot find a solution, may be this is happening only to me.  I have even tried to install all components on a single server but it fails again, there are no failure logs nor setup related logs under c:\windows\logs .  I have read somewhere about SQL requirement and did install SQL on the server I am trying to install RD, please help me with a step by step (though some online resources talk this as a straightforward installation), for me this has not been so straight.

Remote Desktop to server 2012 from windows 7 - problems

Hi folks.

I have a pretty odd thing happening with one of our 2012 servers. When users try to connect to hostname.domain.local, they get an error saying they can't connect due to an 'outdated entry in dns cache'...DNS, hostnames etc are all fine. The second part is that when users try to connect using the IP address, they get prompted for their credentials but their standard username and password will not work and the domain controller logs a bad password attempt....no matter how many times they try (our GPO locks their account after 5 bad attempts). RDP'ing into other servers using their AD creds works fine it just seems to be an issue with this one 2012 server.

When i use mRemote (it's an app that lets you have multiple RDP connections open as tabs) i can connect without issue...so it appears to be an issue only when using the MS RDP app. This remote desktop services role isn't actually installed on this server, we are just using the standard 2 admin connections.

Has anybody seen such a thing?

Thanks

Hi,

I have lots of windows server 2008 R2 that I login to for vaious tasks. Since each has a specific application that I need to access, I thought why not just create an RDP file and set it to launch the application that I need on logon and then after I close the application it would terminate my session.

those server don't have RDS running and I don't plan on installing it on them, so is this supposed to work without RDS Session host role being installed?

Thanks

Need to publish an application through RD Web Access

$

I have been working over the past few months setting up new servers to strip away all the roles that have been hosted by a SBS 2003 server.  I have everything removed from the SBS box at this point except DC which I can't do until MS gets Exchange 2010 SP3 available.  The current step has me working on the replacement of the Remote Desktop feature of SBS.  I have one application that I have to publish to outside users that will not install on anything except XP, Vista or Win7 PC... (I've tried).  I wanted to simply publish the app through the RD Web Access but that won't work so now I'm trying to figure out a workaround.  Here's the layout of my new servers:

Two physical Dell 620 servers (Server 2012) connected to a Dell EqualLogic iSAN for the VM's.
One of the physical servers will become the new DC, one of the VM's connected to the other box will be a failover DC.
Each Physical server has (3) virtual servers each.
One is Server 2012/SQL2012 with SharePoint 2013.
One is 2008R2 with Exchange 2010.
One is 2012 Network storage and share.
One is 2003R2/SQL2000 for an older business database.
One is (will be) the 2012 Failover DC.
One is 2012 installed as the RDS server with basic quick install (all roles on this server)

I've even gone so far as to create a 7th VM that is a Windows 7 desktop to simply publish through VDI.  But I've hit errors trying to connect the virtual win7 to the All Servers group in Server Manager.  I don't want to complicate this any worse than I have... What's my best course of action at this point?  Start over with the RDS install one the non-DC physical server?

Remote Desktop Services 2012 question

In Windows Server 2008, we used to run tsadmin so one admin could connect to another admins session on the same server (for screen sharing / support purposes).  This didn't require any kind of terminal server license as the number of users was limited to 2 I believe.

How do you install / configure / run this same functionality in Windows Server 2012?

Print Dialog Not Appearing in Terminal Server Session

I have a 32 bit Windows Forms app installed on a 64 bit Windows Server 2003 R2 machine.  Clients are 32 bit Windows 7.  In my app, when users wish to print some forms/reports, a print dialog box should appear asking them to choose a printer.  It is not appearing.  Other forms/reports, which automatically print to the client's default printer, print just fine.

Client and server print driver names are identical, and client printer redirection is enabled.

Curiously, I just transitioned to a TS environment after deploying this application via a shared folder on the same server.  In this scenario, printing was working very well.  I changed to TS for more control on closing client sessions - too many being left open.  In changing to TS environment, I removed the File Server role, installed the TS role, and reinstalled my application.

Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.

Deleting print driver on a Windows Server 2008 R2 - Role: TS

Hi,

I have a problem with deleting 3 print drivers on one of our Terminal servers, it keep saying this:

Failed to remove driver HP LaserJet M3027 mfp PCL6. The specified printer driver is currently in use.
Failed to remove driver HP LaserJet M4345 mfp PCL6. The specified printer driver is currently in use.
Failed to remove package prnhp002.inf. Access is denied.

The reason of this removing, is that HP has finally made there Universal Driver for 2008 R2, and therefore want to clean up in old drivers on our 4 terminal servers.

I have tried to stop spool service, but then i can't get in to "Print Server Properties", where i can find the print drivers installed.

Is it because i choose "Remove driver and driver package"?
Or is it because the driver file are the same for for the old driver and the HP universal driver?

Users With AD 'Log On To' Restrictions Can't Connect to Managed Pool on Server 2012 Datacenter RDS

I am running Server 2012 Datacenter with Managed Pools in RDS for VDI (all installed RDS roles are on one server).  Users are running Win7 Enterprise with.  Active Directory is installed on a Server 2008 R2 Standard machine with a 2008 R2 functional level.

I have users that are restricted to logging on to specific machines.  I would like to maintain these restrictions, and I was even considering expanding them to maintain licensing compliance.  However, when this is set up (via Active Directory, in the "Log On To..." button, which is in the Account tab on the user's Properties) users cannot log in to managed pool computers.  I have tried adding the RDS Server and the names of all of the machines in the managed pool (PoolA-0, PoolA-1, ...) to the list of machines the user can log on to, but regardless of whether or not I do that, I get an error like the following:

Authentication error

This does not happen for users without the "Log On To..." restriction, and removing that restriction allows the restricted users to log on, confirming it is the cause of the issue.  Does anyone have any suggestions for resolving this without removing that account restriction?

Specify Access Database in RemoteApp RDP

I am trying to get Access to open a specific file when launching a RemoteApp.  I am using the following argument when creating the RDP.

 D:\Programs\%USERNAME%\folder\file.ade

Access reports that the file is not available.   It works through a shortcut on the desktop.  Does RemoteApp not recognize the %USERNAME%?

P.S.  I have tried creating a installer with the same results.

Remote Desktop Services Locking up Hyper-V

$

We are trying to get RemoteFX working with some VM's in Hyper-V and I am running into an issue where Hyper-V becomes unresponsive after RDS is installed. Below is my server setup:

Dell R815
Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter
4 x AMD Opteron 6272 which does support SLAT
256GB RAM
ATI FirePro V5800 which does support RemoteFX (with updated drivers)
Roles Installed: Hyper-V and RDS (RemoteFX and Core Services)

If I uninstall and and reboot, Hyper-V starts to work fine but once RDS is back Hyper-V becomes unresponsive. What I mean by unresponsive is I can right click on a VM and select Settings and it will just say "Loading" indefinitely and if I start the VM it goes to 10% and will not go any further. There are no errors in the event logs.

Any ideas?

RDP audio issues with Windows Server 2008

$

I have a server with an M-Audio 1010LT audio card installed, running audio playback software.  This software needs to stay running and playing at all times.

We were previously running Windows Server 2003 and when we RDPed into the box for maintenance, we simply made sure that 'Leave at remote computer" was selected under Remote Desktop's sound settings.  This allowed us to control the console of the server while the audio continued to play through the server's audio card.

Now, with Windows Server 2008, even with this option selected when we remote into this server all audio stops and Windows shows no available audio devices.  If I end my RDP session and phyically go to the server, I see the audio devices and am able to re-start the audio playback.

Is this a bug, or something that has changed in 2008?  Any workarounds?

Thanks

How to limit only one user log on at a time

$

I am using a Win 2008 32bit Standard VPS account.

1 We are marketing a proprietary software application on a subscription basis. Each subscription will be provided with one ID and one password.

2. The subscriber organization will most probably have more than one user who will be using this application.

3. At present, when a second  user logs on while the first user is using the application, the server will kick out the first user. This can cause the first user to loose all the work he has done.

4. Is there a way I can limit only one user log in at a time.

This question has been brought up a no. of years ago, but I can find no solutions for Window 2008 32 bit server. We are a small company, so we can not afford to purchase third party software. I would appreciate very much if the forum members can provide some suggestions as to what I can do. This appears to be a common problem but I have not found any clear cut solutions.

Thanks.

Cannot connect directly to 2nd RDSH server when bound to a Connection Broker

For some reason when I connect directly to the 2nd RDSH server that was bound to the Connection Broker, I get the following error:

"The connection cannot be completed because the remote computer that was reached is not the one you specified.  This could be caused by an outdated entry in the DNS cache.  Try using the IP address of the computer instead of the name"

This error message disapears when I remove the RDSH server from the Connection Broker farm.  Oddly I don't get this error when directly connecting to server from outside the LAN.  The DNS entries are fine and are the same whether from on or out of the LAN.

Windows 2012 RDSH cert issue

Hi,

I am seeing a strange issue on a windows server 2012 RDS deployment.

Setup is:

2 x management server running gateway, rdweb and HA session broker

3x RDSH servers

All certs are from internal PKI (URL’s and FQDN’s are correct)

The issue I am seeing is when using windows xp machines to access apps published in a RDWeb site I am getting

“the connection has been terminated because of an unexpected server authentication certificate was received from the remote computer”.

This error seems to be related to the CRL of the certs. Using certutil I am able to successfully access the CRL.

Windows 7 computers work with the deployment above but they also have a CRL error:

“A revocation check could not be performed for the certificate”

This can be bypassed and the apps are accessible. Again certutil successfully can access the CRL.

I have done all of the usual’s:

Ensure the root CA is installed in the computer trusted root ca

Manually download and apply the CRL

Verify the CRL is accessible

Cut new certs

Ensure all of the computers names and aliases are in as SAN’s

Forced used of gateway server

Bypassed gateway server

Removed all servers but 1 server running all components (RD GW, RD CB, RDWEB and RDSH)

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ciaran

Install SSL Cert on RDP-TCP for Server 2012 which is not joined to the domain like Server 2008 R2

$

Hello,

We just built out Server 2012 STD and will reside it in DMZ along with not joining it to our domain. After we ran Qualys PCI scan, we found an issue with SSL Certificate - Signature Verification Failed Vulnerability port 3389/tcp over SSL. On 2008 R2, we put a cert on RDP-TCP properties to resolve this issue. However, on 2012 I cannot find the same way to do that since no terminal services are installed as built in.

I found the article below, but the standard deployment option/quick start are not available on non domain joined server like we have.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserver8gen/thread/8efe05de-b596-4180-bc41-3f98008b555f/

Is there a way I can make the similar process we did on 2008 R2 for this new server 2012 std ?
