Serious problem with TSCAL per user Licensing (Event 4105 on Licenseserver)

$

Hello,

i've got a problem with Terminalservice-Licensing: We migrated our AD from W2003 to W2008. At the same time, we updated our Terminalservice-Licenseserver to W2008 (Memberserver, no DC). We are using per-user TSCAL licensing. The problem is, that for (nearly) every user that logs on to a W2008 Terminalserver, an event 4105 is generated in the eventlog of the Licenseserver, that  means that the licence server cannot update the ad user properties when he delivers the cals.

We have discovered that the terminalserver-licenceserver group is under the security properties of the user listed but has no rights. For new created users the rights "terminalserver-licenceserver read/write" are correctly set and for those users no event 4105 is generated. The problem is, that License-reporting (usage) is only working for those newly created accounts and not for old ones. Why doesn't the terminalserver-licenceserver group have the rights to modify the Terminalserver-AD attributes for older accounts (these accounts were created when the domain-level was W2003)??? Is there a workaround or hotfix from Microsoft to correct the securitysettings ??

Many thanks

Ralf

At present, I have windows server 2003 terminal server farm which hosts Microsoft office and other custom applications. Users will be getting their home folder as mapped drive when they logs in to TS.
Is there any way using RemoteApp we can publish the drives? Appreciated if somebody can advise.

Thanks in advance,

VDI QuickStart Not Working - Network Adapter Virtual Switch

I'm trying to follow this Quick Start guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831585.aspx

Walking through the wizard eventually fails after clicking next at "Server Selection" with the following error:

"The server does not have a network adapter available to create a virtual switch"

I do have HyperV installed on this server and an external virtual switch. Is that the problem?

My goal here is to test out a one box Server 2012/HyperV/RemoteApp VDI. Any help would be appreciated.

Dealing with Users with Multiple Accounts

Hi,

In our domain we have some users with multiple accounts because they have different roles within the company.  One example of this is the administrators.  They have a basic user account for daily activities and then an administrator account for other purposes.

We have an RDS license server and session hosts set up.  We are issuing per user licenses.  In this situation those users are being issued two licenses.  How should we deal with this situation?

Thanks

RD web access question and how to show apps installed on different rdsh boxes in farm.

Simple setup with 4 servers.

3x boxes running RDSH and RD Web Access

1x box running RD Licensing and RD Connection Broker

farm.domain.com points to the 3 RDSH boxes. Clients are connecting to farm.domain.com/rdweb

RDSH1 has Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel and CustomApp1
RDSH2 has Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel and CustomApp2
RDSH3 has Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel and CustomApp3

The problem is, if the rdweb site if configured to use the connection broker then users only see the office apps and the 1 customapp from the rdsh box they're directed to.
If the rdweb site if configured to use all 3 rdsh hosts as the source then i get multiple instances of the same app showing.

How do i show icons for all apps but only one 1 icon for each of the office apps?

Use Easy Connect is grayed out in Windows 2012

Since Windows 2012 doesn’t Remote Control/Shadow, we would like to use Remote Assistance/Easy Connect to control remote session to support our RD users. But whenever I try to run Remote Assistance, the Use Easy Connect is grayed out.

I have enabled “Peer Name Resolution Protocol” (PNRP) as show the screenshot.

The IPv6 is enabled. All 3 Windows 2012 servers have the same issue and all my Windows 7 and 8 computers don’t have this problem when using Remote Assistance. What could be the problem?

Cannot remote control users sessions using Terminal Services Manager

Hello all

I have recently put Terminal Services on one of our Windows 2003 x64 Standard servers, before installed could remote control another admin no problem.

When I now go to remote control a user, I get Session (ID#) remote control failed.

(Error 7054 - The system has reached its licensed logon limit.  Please try again later.)

Run LSView and confirms that it can see the licensing server.

Anyone got any ideas, doesn't make any sense?

Many Thanks

I am new to RDS but understand the concepts pretty well.

In trying to setup a new RDS 2008, I have setup my shared folder and allocated correct permissions - to test I have used the Profile part in Active Directory (but will use GPO for all). When I logon I get a profile on c:\users\username and on my UserProfile$\username v2?

Why in both?

Please help :)

Has anyone out there changed the icon/logo that comes in the out of box configuration for Remote Desktop Web Access in 2012.  I've changed the title of the page via Power Shell, but how do I change the icon from the standard Remote Desktop icon picture to my company logo?

Thanks! Nate

Server 2012: Local User Profile Disks & DFS

Securing Remote Desktop Administration

$

Hi there,

Not sure if this is the best place to post this query but have put it in the Windows Azure forum as well.

I have been testing out the VM features in Windows Azure and got a message from Windows Azure Abuse team that mentioned some bad traffic had come from an IP address in my subscription. I was very surprised at this as I have only deployed vanilla Windows VM's so far and generally delete them after an hour or so. This raised the questions of security for me.

I started looking it using a certificate to secure the RDP session. However all of the documentation on the Azure support site refers to using certificates with Roles, and explains about using CSEncrypt and then modifying the ServiceDefinition.csdef.

I then started looking into how to secure RDP but all of the documents I find relate to setting up a Remote Desktop Session Host rather than just the basic Remote Administration, also most are W2008 not W2012.

Has anyone else looked into this and got any experience they want to share...?

All help appreciated.

Kind regards,

John

rdpsign.exe - unable to use certificate - 0x8007000d

Hi all,

I am trying to sign a rdp file with a certificate created from our internal CA. Certificate, Root CA and Intermidiate CA is installed on the server from where the signing is happening.

I am trying to assign the certificate to the rdp file with this command (As administrator):

rdpsign.exe /sha1 sha1-hash-from-cert-with-no-spaces TS-TEST.RDP
I get the following error:

Unable to use the certificate specified for signing. Error Code: 0x8007000d
The rdp file could not be signed.  Error Code: 0x8007000d

The certificate that is used is created for Remote Desktop Authentication (1.3.6.1.4.1.311.54.1.2) / Client Authentication

Certificate info:
CN=FQDN of the RDP server choosen in the RDP file
SAN=Netbios of the RDP server and other servers (The RDP is connecting to a RDS farm)

Whats up with this?

EDIT: If i use a certificate generated from External CA, there is no problem. Is the certificate i created from our internal CA not right?
When using the external certificate, the RDP file gets corrupted?

Windows 2012 / Remote FX / Quadro 4000 - GPU Greyed out 99% of time

$

Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening

I am / have been trying to get RemoteFX working on my Windows 2012 server with a nVidia Quadro 4000 card. - The server is a ML350p Gen 8 Proliant and is SLAT.

Things that I have done - Onboard Video is disabled, Onboard Remote iLO is disabled - I know the card works in RemoteFX in Windows 2008 R2 since I tried it and was sucessful - it was painful but it worked after a while, so I took the jump back to Server 2012.

So now we are here - Hyper V loaded, RDVH loaded, Drivers Loaded - However ever time I go to Hyper V settings - GPU is blank and greyed out saying I dont' have a GPU. I know this must be a Driver problem - since I tried another Driver , went into Hyper V and all of a sudden I saw the Quadro card in the GPU. BUT as soon as I reboot the server, the GPU is empty in HyperV settings and I am back to square1.

I am trying the latest drivers from nVidia, tried the previous also and still no go....so frustrating -

Remote Desktop Connection server 2008 r2

We have a termianl server envirnment running windows server 2008 r2 RDP. We are having issues with two applications. They need to run as administrator but we don't want them to be a local administrator on the server.

Is there something that I can do to have the two programs run as administrator and not have it prompt for a username and password?
