How do we use client's GPS devices with a RemoteApp?

Hi everyone,

I'm publishing a RemoteApp which needs a gps device to work. The client is anAndroid tablet that has internal gps but the RemoteApp can't recognize it somehow. Is there anyone who succeed the similar task?

What I tried is that:

  • Using external GPS devices (one is with cable, other one is bluetooth gps)
  • Configuring group policies (local at RDS computer  and the one at DC)
  • Allowing client drivers by changing settings at RDS manager (Server Manager console)
  • Couple things that might help

I'm using Windows Server 2012

Thanks in advance

Hi All,

I have a server with 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Service enable. I have same publish applications and it's working fine.

But if an user open more that one application and then when he end one application the another applications close too.

Is it possible open one session for each application? Because i saw that each user connection open a single session for all applications.

Thanks in advance.

Windows RT (Surface) cannot run Remote App from Windows 2008 R2 RDS - Log-on Attempt Failed

I am unable to run Remote Apps on my Surface (Windows 8 RT) using the Remote Apps application.  I can configure the App and log in with my account.  I am then presented with the list of applications available.  When I attempt to run one of the applications I am redirected to the desktop and asked to log on to Remote Desktop Services Default Connection.  I enter my domain credentials and I get bounced with the Log-on Attempt Failed.

NOTE:
- I am able to run Remote Apps from Windows 8 Pro connected to the domain and Windows 7 without any problem.

- I am attempting connections internally and DNS is all OK - I can ping local and remote DNS names for the RD Server.

- The Windows 2008 R2 server is running All roles (Session Host, Web and Gateway).

- I have purchased and installed 3rd party SSL cert.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

RemoteFX - Direct3D crash after user disconnects

Hi

I am running a game using Direct3D using RemoteFX. When I disconnect my client the application crashes. I want the game to continue to play even if I am logged off. That way I can change locations, have my character be ingame 24/7 etc.

How can I prevent a fullscreen Direct3D application to crash after I close my connection to the server?

10 minute logoff times in TS 2003 only when printers are redirected

Environment:

Terminal Server 2003 R2 w/ SP2 (Windows updates last run on October 6th, 2012)

Windows XP and 7 clients running either RDP client 5.2 or 6.1.

Below issue started happening shortly after the terminal server rebooted mid-morning (software app update).  Also, some folders were cleaned up due to low space on the server.  Some of the folders removed were printer driver installer folders.  Unfortunately, I am unable to bring back the data at this point (no backup of the affected folders).

Issue:

I have an issue where it takes users 10+ minutes for their session to log off only when printers are redirected to the session. If I disable printer redirection on the client (uncheck the printers in the options of the RDP client), users log out within seconds.  This happens on RDP clients 5.2 and 6.1.  I have installed UPHClean already, but the problem persists.  I do get event ID 1401 from UPHClean occasionally but not consistantly (when long logoffs occur, this event is not always generated).  The message is related to winlogon.exe, and registry key HKCU\Printers\DevModePerUser.  This behavior occurs with new and old users alike.  It happens regardless of roaming profile settings (on or off), and the user has been placed in an OU in Active Directory that would prevent policy inheritance.  I have also attempted to turn on debug on winlogon.  I gathered a log of user logoff both with and without the printer redirection set.  Both logs appear similar.

I would appreciate some assistance with this issue.  Thanks in advance!

Remote Desktop Server 2008 R2 Mandatory profile problem

$

Hi,

I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running Remote Desktop services and configured with Mandatory Profiles. Its all working well except when our users attempt to logon to the server for the first time each day. They get an error:

"The Group Policy Client service failed the logon.
Access is denied."

If they immediately try to log in again, they are granted access, the mandatory profile loads, no problems.

But two 512 KB files appear and remain in their home directory that look like this:

NTUSER.MAN{016888bd-6c6f-11de-8d1d-001e0bcde3ec}.TMContainer00000000000000000001.regtrans-ms
NTUSER.MAN{016888bd-6c6f-11de-8d1d-001e0bcde3ec}.TMContainer00000000000000000002.regtrans-ms

So their profiles increase in size at a rate of at least 1 MB / day.

Their failed logon attempts create the following event ids in the Application log:

6004 - The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> failed a critical notification event.

1542 - Windows cannot load classes registry file.
DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.

6001 - The winlogon notification subscriber <Sens> failed a notification event.

In the Security event log I can see 6 Success events for logon, followed by a brief pause (for the user to click ok) and then 6 success events for logoff.

In the System event log, Winlogon reports:

7001 - User Logon Notification for Customer Experience Improvement Program

7001 - User Logoff Notification for Customer Experience Improvement Program

CEIP is disabled, btw.

If I delete the users profile through Advanced System Settings. They can log in again just fine, but the next day, they'll fail their first login and their profile will grow.

Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot?

Cheers

Remote users are not able to connect to Terminal Server from WAN while administrators are able to

Good evening.

I have setup my Terminal Server and it is activated. I have also created a Firewall rule to allow connections to port 3389 mapped from WAN to the internal IP of my Terminal Server. after trying to connect, I was able to reach the Terminal server using my admin account. I tried a different scenario, trying to log in using a user account but I couldn't, the error message was:

"The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login."

Any Suggestions?

2012 RDS: Non-Administrators can not access VDI pool

$

I am currently setting up server 2012 VDI using 2 servers. A connection broker, web access, licenseing server and a VM Host server. I have followed the wizards, created my master image, created the collection, and setup group policy to add the group I want to give RDS access to Allow log on through terminal services & Remote Desktop Users group.

When I connect using my admin account everything works, it connects to the connection broker and then forwards to one of the running VMs.

When I connect using a non-admin account I am prompted with: The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login. I also get the following in the event log:

TerminalServices-SessionBroker

RD Connection Broker failed to process the connection request for user ***\****.
Failed to find Resource Plugin OR an end point for the user.
Error: Access is denied.

TerminalService-SessionBroker-Client

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker.
User : ***\****
Error: Element not found.

--

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user ***\****
Error: NULL

I searched the internet high and low and I can not figure this out. I have even put the the non-admin users in the remote desktop users on the server just to see what would happen, same results if trying to connect to the pool. But I am able to connect directly to the server. I am also able to directly connect to a VM in the pool using a non-admin account.

Any help would be appreciated.

RDS 2012 vs 2008 R2 compatibility

Couple of quick questions:

1. If the TS role holding system goes down, will users still be able to remote into the system at least for a short period of time while we rebuild it? Even new users?

2. If we install the role and CALs on one system and later want to move that role and CAL set to another system is that possible (2008 R2 for now).

3. What CAL pack sizes are available for 2008 R2? I can't find this easily online as each reseller seems to have different sets?

4. If you build a 2012 server with the RDS role and CALs, can 2008 R2 systems point to it as their license server?

5. If I buy 10 CALs for a certain new system (A) and users and another system (B) comes online that has 5 users that need access to it, can I assign max CAL assignments so that there's always 10 available for the users of the first system (A) and 5 for the second (B)? Say for example the first 8 people log into system A. Then 5 log into system B. Then 2 more into system B but those are not the last 2 that need access to system A. Now when the last two users who need access to system B try to log into it, all 15 CALs would have been used up. Obviously we'll need 12 total anyway, but we want to make sure the 10 original users have one for when they access system A. Hope that made sense! :)

"System Administrator does not allow the use of saved credentials...." RDP clients and 2008 RDS

I have just setup a new 2008 R2 Remote Desktop server.   I am trying to setup RDP clients to save the password and credentials for connecting to the server.  However when I try to do this on client computers, I get a message "Your system administrator does not allow the use of saved credentials to logon to the remote computer x.x.x.x because its identity is not fully verified."

I have done some internet searching on this issue, but mostly they talk about changing policy settings on the client.  Is there a setting on the server that I can change, to allow users to save their credentials in the RDP client?  Thanks for any advice.

Windows Server 2012 RemoteApp Automated Client Configuration on Windows 7

I am attempting to configure the RemoteApp client on a Windows 7 machine to connect to our new Windows Server 2012 RemoteApp environment via an automated process (GPO/ConfigManager 2012). I know of the process required when using Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 (via .wcx file installed via a GPO that runs a PowerShell script) and when using Windows 2012 and Windows 8 (new GPO option for Windows 8 only), but I have not found a method for configuring a Windows 7 client to connect to a Windows Server 2012 RemoteApp environment without user intervention. Has someone figured out a way to accomplish this?

Group Policy - RemoteApp and Desktop Connections

Hello,

I would like to manage the Remoteapp and Desktop Connections via Group Policy for Windows 7 clients. I am aware of the alternate methods of deploying remoteapp connections, but I quite like the update functionality of the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections. I would have thought it would have been available in the current Group Polciy set available with Server 08 R2 but the setting appears to be unmanageable.

So has anyone come across, or written a custom ADMX to control this or had success using a deployed REG key of some sort to configure the webfeed URL?

Many thanks

Jason

RemoteApp Source not working from RDWeb

I have 2 servers at the moment managed by a connection broker. If I choose a RemoteApp source instead of RD conncection broker then 1 of my servers populates all the apps fine. If I choose the other host then it errors and says 'RD Web Access was not able to access xxxx. Verify that the RD Session Host server name was entered correctly, that the server is running and connected to the network, and try again.' All the servers are R2 and I can RDP to each of the session hosts fine.

Configuring Guest OS for 2012 VDI?

How to disable Remote Desktop Access but allow RemoteAPPs to run?

Hi everyone,

We have RemoteApps working fine. Unfortunately, it also enables Remote Desktop Connections as well so the user who is supposed to ONLY use the RemoteApp directly from the .rdp file now can have access to full Remote Desktop. Is there a way to disable remote desktop but allow remote apps (.rdp files)?

Thanks

Microsoft licensing changes: How do they apply to Remote Desktop Session Host?

$

I've been having some difficulty understanding how to be correctly licensed with all the VDI licensing changes that have been made recently.

In an environment where many users connect up to a Remote Desktop Session (not remoteapp or a virtual computer but to a full desktop on a RDS server):

What licenses do I need for users connecting from a shared thin client (Ex: HP T5540)? I'm thinking Windows CAL & Remote Desktop CAL & any application licenses they use (SQL, Office, Exchange, etc).

Do I need a VDI license for every thin client device as well? Isn't that what the RDS CAL is for (we license per user so it should cover these shared thin clients)?

And how does all of this change when you enter BYOD into the equation? (Ex: tablets)

Would it be better to get a VDI licenses for each thin client as well?

Hi all,

i configured SSO for Windows Server 2012 RDS Web Access/RemoteApp programs. But it seems only Windows 8 clients(RDP 8 version) can connect with SSO.

For RDP 7 and 6 versions SSO is not working and asking for credentials again.

Is this a expected beahivour?
