RDS 2012 Font Smoothing / Cleartype not Persisting

I've got a two server RDS 2012 farm that uses TS Roaming Profiles and Folder Redirection. Everything works well, but the font looks like total garbage. Letters are shoved together, etc. Enabling ClearType on the server fixes everything, but the setting isn't saved between logons. Any ideas how to fix this?

Does windows server 2008 Supports 2880X2560

$

Hi,

I'm connecting from a Windows XP SP3 that runs a RDP 7 client to Windows server 2008 R2.

The machine that runs windows XP has three monitors attached: Dell u3011 (1600X2560) and two standard 19" monitors (1280X1024). The "Use all my monitors for the remote session" check-box is unavailable, therefor I decided to use only two out of the three monitors, the 30" and one of the 19" which are located one next to another.

I created a .rdp file and edited its height and width manually to 2880X2560, but the session opens itself over 800X600. Is there any way to configure the RDP to use those monitors more efficiently?

*I'm aware that some of the remote screen will not be displayed, since the monitors combination does not create a rectangular shape.

Thanks!

Downgrade Windows 2008 Server R2 RDP 7.1 for older thin clients?

Can the RDP 7.1 in Windows Server 2008 R2 be downgraded to be compatible with older client operating systems?

We have several HP t5700 XP-Embedded thin clients deployed at the client site, connecting currently to a Windows Server 2003 running terminal services. I believe these thin clients will connect to a terminal server running as high as RDP 6.1

We're replacing the old 2003 server with a new server running Windows Server 2008 R2 and terminal services.

I've been unable to get the thin clients to connect to the new server, and the old desktops running XP SP2 would not connect either. The error message is something about unable to connect because of security. Only after I upgraded the desktops to XP SP3 were they able to connect. The HP t5700 thin clients running XP-Embedded cannot be upgraded, as far as I've been able to research.

What I'd really like to do is downgrade the RDP from 7.1 to something lower like 6.1. I'm quite sure they will work with 6.1 because we have another server running Windows Server 2008 (not R2) and it is running RDP 6.1 and the thin clients can connect to it fine.

I have already tried the suggestions of leaving the Network Level Authentication option unchecked, setting the Security Layer to Negotiate, nothing has worked.

Hi,

I have published few application through RDS 2012. I am trying to access the remoteapp using email ID option for windows 8 'Access remote apps and desktops'. I have created a record in DNS and able to resolve when enter user email ID and click on next in 'Access remote apps and desktops' wizard.

I am able to access RemoteApps through RDWeb or using the URL on windows 7 'Access remote apps and desktops' . On windows 8 machines as well I was able to access remoteapps through full URL (..../Feed/webfeed.aspx) initially but once I remove the connection and trying to recreate it as email ID or URL based, both options doesn't connect with Remoteapp published.

Any pointers would be appreciated. '

RDS Login Accounts

I have a number of questions that I require some advice on.

1. I am running RDS on a Server 2008 R2, when I open the RD Web Access Page and it asks for the username and password credential I enter the credentials for that user, I receive the following error: Server Error in '/RDWEB/Pages' Apllication however if I use the administrator credentials the window continues the Remote Apps window showing the published apps, I then am able to run the app but only under the Administrator Credentials

2. When running the remote app from the shared location with the user credentials the pages opens and show me logging into a session but then logs off without activating the app.

I believe it is a permission problem

Any suggestions

Users are having very slow loading websites through RD using IE9. There are certain type of websites loading very slow.

Eg. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/welcome
http://www.smallmiracle-srilanka.co.uk/
http://www.ctc-aspire.co.uk/

pga etakes agaes to load.

There are few other browsers are also installed on the RD servers which does not have this issue.

I checked on the RD servers itself with IE9 & dont see the slow down. I am not sure any GP creating this issue.

TS Gateway certificate problem

Hi,

I have a TS Gateway running on windows server 2008 (machine is dedicated for TS Gateway role and all the necessary services ). For some reason, TS Gateway shuts down every 2 or 3 days and it restarts right away by itself --This occurs randomly.  The problem is every time TS Gateway restarts, it does not assign the SSL certificate that I previously set (I have a valid certificate generated by COMODO and not the self generated certificate).  Which means all the users of remoteApp or Remote desktop cannot login to the system because the TS Gateway is not configured with a certificate.

The same problem occur when I restart the sever machine manually, TS Gateway certificate is not selected!

Under the SSL Certificate Tab of the TS Gateway properties it shows the following message:

For TS Gateway to function correctly, you must select an existing SSL certificate of create a self signed certificate

Every time I have to select the certificate manually and TS Gateway starts to work normally and clients are able to connect.

In the TS log it shows :

Warning               400         7/30/2009 9:39:06 AM    TerminalServices-Gateway  (ts gateway shutting down)

Critical                 102           7/30/2009 9:39:16 AM    TerminalServices-Gateway (The Terminal Services Gateway service requires a valid Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate to accept connections. Ensure that you have obtained a valid SSL certificate, and then bind (map) the certificate by using TS Gateway Manager. For more information, see "Obtain a certificate for the TS Gateway server" in the TS Gateway Help. The following error occurred: "259"

)

Information        101         7/30/2009 9:39:16 AM    TerminalServices-Gateway (The TS Gateway service is shutting down. To diagnose possible causes for this problem, verify whether the following services are installed and started: (1) World Wide Web Publishing Service (2) Internet Authentication Service (IAS) (3) RPC/HTTP Load Balancing Service. Also, check Event Viewer for Network Policy Server (NPS) and IIS events that might indicate problems with NPS or IIS.)

I check all the sevices mentioned in this log and they seem to work fine.

Please help me what causes this Behavior.

Thank you

Hi everyone,

I'm publishing a RemoteApp which needs a gps device to work. The client is anAndroid tablet that has internal gps but the RemoteApp can't recognize it somehow. Is there anyone who succeed the similar task?

What I tried is that:

  • Using external GPS devices (one is with cable, other one is bluetooth gps)
  • Configuring group policies (local at RDS computer  and the one at DC)
  • Allowing client drivers by changing settings at RDS manager (Server Manager console)
  • Couple things that might help

I'm using Windows Server 2012

Thanks in advance

Multiple monitors not working in RDS on server 2012

$

Hello.

I have a Windows 2012 server running RDS. Before RDS was installed a remote desktop session used all available monitors when 'use all my monitors for the remote session' was checked in the RDP client settings.

After I installed RDS the default session collection had a limit of 16 monitors that I was unable to edit. When I connected to the default session collection I could only get the remote session to display on 1 monitor.

I deleted that session collection, created a new one, and was able to edit the 'maximum number of redirected monitors' setting to the desired value of 2 but the remote session still only displays on 1 monitor.

If the session collection is set to 2 monitors and the RDP client is set to 'use all my monitors' why is the remote session only displayed on 1?

Thanks.

TS Session Broker- Load balancing -need help??

$

Hi Everyone,

We have six terminal servers that are distributed like this, four servers (WS03*2, WS08*2) for two different department to access their applications, One server(WS03) for all users to access internally  and one sever(WS03) for all users from outside the network.

We are looking to some sort of load balancing to minimize the server count to as less as we can so that we can best utilize resources among servers.

So we are thinking to have session broker in picture and let all servers upgraded to server 2008
so can someone please suggest how we should proceed further, what architecture and planning we should follow also is there a way (through TS Session broker settings or Group Policy) to direct users to specific Terminal Services in a farm based on their OU or group?  For e.g. Group A be directed to TerminalServerA and everyone else to TerminalServerB.  Is this time of scenario possible?

Thanks

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

$

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?
